- Oliver Walton ‘two’ good in the Junior category
Atef Al Barwani and Hussain Umid Ali scored a win apiece in the SWS RX7 Sprint races at the Kartdrome on Monday night (20 April 2015), while Oliver Walton was unbeatable in the Junior LR4 category.
Al Barwani struck first by powering to pole position with a best lap of 1:12.042, with the top five on the grid separated by a second and the top fifteen covered by two seconds.
In Race 1, Al Barwani and Umid Ali set the early pace and managed to break away from the pack. They finished with Al Barwani taking the victory by less than half a second. Behind them Rami Azzam was best of the rest in third. He was followed over the finish line by Piotr Karykowski in fourth with, in his slipstream, fifth placed Nadia Khan and Ahmed Alhammadi in sixth.
Seventh went to Matt Walker after a race long duel with Abdul Basit who ended eighth ahead Antony Hirst and Gary Jones rounding out the top ten – a mere half a second separating the quartet as they crossed the finish line.
Race 2 was three-way battle between Umid Ali, Al Barwani and Azzam as the trio swapped fastest laps and set a hot pace. Eventually Umid Ali managed to edge ahead and claim victory over Azzam in second and Al Barwani third.
Behind them Basit claimed fourth, with Khan taking fifth after fending off sixth placed Karykowski. Al Hamamdi was seventh, Porus Noshir eighth, Geroge Clarke ninth and Hirst tenth.
Earlier in the evening Oliver Walton did the double, taking maximum points by winning both his heat races and then powering to a comfortable win in the SWS Junior LR4 Super Final.
Heat 2 winner Keanu Al Azhari was second overall in the heats, with Giacomo Caccia third thanks to his win in Heat 4. Behind Walton in the Super Final was Caccia in second and Seif Al Naggar third. Luis Velasco won the Final.
Best novice awards on the night went to Matt Wlaker (Seniors) and David Arya Zandieh (Juniors)
