Sodi Academy drivers star in SWS Sprint Series at the Kartdrome

  • Sodi Academy trio take top three positions in Round 2 of the SWS Juniors Sprint Series at the Kartdrome
  • Agha and Al Naggar share a win apiece with Shields doing enough to finish third overall

Sodi Racing Academy drivers were the stars of Round 2 of the SWS Junior Sprint races held at the Kartdrome on Monday, 1 February, with Kamal Agha, Seif Al Naggar and Danny Shields taking all three spots on the podium at the end of the evening.

Once again a strong field of drivers, in Sodi LR4 Karts, assembled for the SWS Juniors and from the outset there was very little to separate the front runners in both races.

In Race 1, Kamal Agha took a narrow victory over Danny Shields, with Rashid al Dhaheri third, ahead of pole winner Jakub Fitzsimmons in fourth, with Seif Al Naggar in fifth and Alex Connor rounding out the top six.

In Race 2, Al Naggar did the business winning by two and a half seconds, with Al Dhaheri runner-up after a close tussle with Shields in third, followed by Fitzsimmons in fourth and Race 1 winner Agha fifth with Connor again in sixth place.

With results tallied from both races Agha emerged the overall winner, with Al Naggar second and Danny Shields in third – making it an all Sodi Academy drivers’ podium in the junior category.

Luigi Gariano of Sodi Kart ME said, “It was great to see our three boys in their black and white Sodi Academy race suits taking over the podium. It is a result of hard work and commitment by the drivers and our team coaches.”

“We have the likes of Piers Pakenham-Walsh and Vincent Fraisse, both with great experince, who coach the young drivers in our team and we are seeing good results. We have already two drivers – Archie Sampson and Luis Velasco – who have progressed to the UAE Rotax Micro Max Championship and have established themselves in the midpack in their first year.”

“Recently we have had Kamal and Danny making their Micro Max debut at the O-Plate where they both impressed and showed that they are ready for the next step. Seif will also be ready to take the next step. These results and good showings by our youngsters prove that our programme is working,” added Gariano.

Round 3 of the SWS Sprint Series takes place at Dubai Kartdrome on Monday, 22 February.
